Thomas Gumley

I started at William Roberts in 2021. I am supporting the financial institutions team on several of our current class action cases, in particular combustible cladding.

Prior to joining the firm, I gained experience in-house at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in their pre-publication department and worked at the University of Sydney as an academic instructor. I also taught English as a Second Language for many years in China, Japan and in Sydney.

Who I work with and what I do

I work with Bill Petrovski, Ding Pan and the class actions team. I am thoroughly involved in our combustible cladding class actions in the Federal Court (The Owners – Strata Plan 91086 v Fairview Architectural Pty Ltd NSD940/2019 & The Owners – Strata Plan No 87231 v 3A Composites GmbH & Anor NSD 215/2019).

I assist our lawyers with:
- conducting discovery review
- preparing briefs for Counsel and experts
- undertaking legal research
- liaising with the Federal Court registry
- drafting legal documents

Where I studied

In addition to my Juris Doctor, I am studying at the College of Law to complete my Practical Legal Training (PLT) and aim to be admitted as a full solicitor in the near future.

I also have a Bachelor of Arts with a Research Honours in History and International Relations.

What I like to do

I have a broad range of interests including reading non—fiction on history and science, learning languages, physical fitness and exercise, playing guitar and miniature painting.
