Ian Wylie

I am an experienced commercial litigator and advisor. I was a barrister at the New South Wales Bar for many years, following partnership in two top tier national and international legal firms.

Who I work with and what I do

I have conducted complex commercial litigation in all major Australian jurisdictions, both:

  • leading and managing strategy and preparation as law firm partner; and
  • advising and appearing as counsel.

I have advised and represented clients in a wide range of industry sectors, including:

  • ADR and other dispute resolution management and strategy;
  • ACCC and ASIC Federal, Full Federal and High Court enforcement action;
  • Class actions (representative proceedings);
  • Commonwealth and State regulatory investigations and tribunal proceedings;
  • Competition and consumer protection superior court and appellate litigation between major national and multinational corporations;
  •  Intellectual property superior court and appellate enforcement litigation between large and small corporations and individuals;
  • Professional Indemnity, Directors and Officers, marine and other insurance and reinsurance disputes; and
  • State Supreme Court Commercial and Equity Division claims, and similar general commercial contract, tort, equitable and statutory claims and appeals in other Federal and State jurisdictions.

I also established the Thomson Reuters’ Practical Law Australia litigation, dispute resolution, competition and consumer protection law on-line platform services in 2017, and have presented and published widely, particularly in those areas of law.

I am also a member of the Competition and Consumer Committee of the Law Council of Australia and various other professional associations.

Where I studied

I have Bachelors degrees in Arts and Law from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Applied Science from Charles Sturt University.
