Jonathan Chia

Jonathan is in his penultimate year, studying a Bachelor of Laws and Business (Finance) at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). 

Jonathan assists the Brisbane team in multi-party commercial litigation, insurance and insolvency matters including, inter alia:

  • Drafting and proof-reading letters to clients in relation to the provision of advices and summary updates
  • Drafting and preparing court documents for motor vehicle insurance claims (Statements of Claim, Defence, Exhibits and Affidavits)
  • Compiling and preparing Lists of Documents, tender bundles and briefs
  • Compiling and preparing documents to be used in Supreme Court e-trials
  • Conducting legal research and writing legal memos for solicitors
  • Attending court to file and to note take during hearings, including for matters before the Federal Court of Australia, and all QLD Courts

Jonathan’s experience also includes an internship for a human rights non-government organisation in Malaysia, where he engaged in various advocacy and campaign projects. The projects focused on torture prevention campaigns and campaign for the implementation of an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission. He also undertook research on laws and cases related to right to fair trial and freedom of expression.
