Mihaela Mitreva

Mihaela has completed a Juris Doctor Law Degree at the University of Technology, Sydney and a Bachelor of Economics with Distinction majoring in Economics and Financial Economics at the University of New South Wales.

Mihaela’s primary practice areas include insurance litigation and dispute resolution as well as legal advice in debt recovery.

Her focus is on property claims for insurers, including motor property damage and loss of use. Mihaela has expertise in liability and quantum disputes as to subrogated motor property damage claims arising from causes of action in negligence and vicarious liability.

Mihaela's other experience includes:

  • advising insurer clients with respect to quantum and liability disputes;
  • representing clients, compiling evidence and making submissions in litigated recovery and defended motor property damage matters;
  • appearing at Small Claims Assessment Hearing;
  • negotiating favourable settlement outcomes for institutional clients;
  • assisting in the administration of the Springwood Bushfire settlement distribution scheme; and
  • assisting in the preparation of evidence for Life Insurance litigated matters.

Mihaela’s practice spans various jurisdictions including New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and Western Australia.

Prior to being admitted as a lawyer, Mihaela worked in the insurance industry for 5 years and has transitioned into law with an understanding of priorities and business practices of large insurers.

Mihaela has a particular interest in Cyber Security, including how cyber and privacy risks impact Australia’s current technological landscape. 

Mihaela is admitted to practice in the High Court of Australia and the New South Wales Supreme Court, and is a member of the Law Society of New South Wales.
