Carlos Jaramillo

Carlos is an experienced litigator with a strong background in all facets of commercial, personal injury, construction and insurance litigation having conducted such litigation for plaintiffs and defendants.

He is recognised for his commercial advice that takes into account relevant issues including reserves, overall outcome including legal spend and media sensitive claims.

Carlos is frequently instructed to project manage litigation that requires the pooling of resources so as to streamline the advisory, reporting, pleading and evidence gathering processes. This inevitably leads to significant savings in legal costs and a reduction in ongoing exposure to insurers resulting in multi-million dollar savings.

Carlos’ recent experience includes:

  • instructed by various local government authorities in relation to construction and retail lease disputes, funding agreements, delegation of authority and tendering obligations
  • providing advice to various Councils in relation to litigation funding agreements and the relevant statutory provisions (including tendering obligations and delegation of authority) with respect to the desirability and ability of the Councils to enter into such arrangements
  • acted on numerous defective building work claims for developers and builders arising under contract or tort
  • defending public liability/personal injury claims individually worth millions of dollars at the instruction of various insurers, predominantly for construction companies. Following satisfactory resolution to the insurer, Carlos has acted to secure contribution from co-insurers
  • advising on bankruptcies with high media visibility
  • the honour of advising the Consul General of Ecuador, the Ambassador of Peru to Australia and the Consul General of Peru.
